Director General of Police N.Sambasiva Rao today dismissed the allegations that the arrest of policemen from Visakhapatnam in Rajasthan by that State police was a vindictive action as the AP police had killed a suspect from that State in an alleged encounter in a dacoity case.

The DGP said that the department would go all out to protect the policemen if they were not involved in corruption. Sambasiva Rao said that the four policemen had gone to Rajasthan in connection with the recovery of stolen gold in a robbery case. They were arrested by the ACB of Rajasthan for demanding and accepting bribe from the accused in the case. ‘The police team spoke to me and claimed that they are framed by the ACB when they were recovering the stolen property and cash from the accused’, he said.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had already spoken to Rajasthan counterpart to ascertain the facts. The AP police department would take all steps to safeguard the morale of the police force and chalk out plans to bring them back. The DGP said that the AP police had done a great job by nabbing a DSP rank officer and added that a special team has been formed to investigate the circumstances under which Padmalatha, daughter of former Nakkapalli MLA K.Nookaraju had died.

On ganja, he said its consumption by youth increased in the past few years is disturbing. In the past few years, over 1,600 persons had been arrested in Visakhapatnam areas for their involvement in the trade, he said. The police would give full security to the Excise personnel to help them destroy ganja plants not only in the roadside areas but also in the remote and Maoist affected areas. ‘Our focus is to break the chain, from financeiers to cultivators to distributors and consumers’, he said.
