‘Switching over to English medium is against the spirit of Right to Education Act’, says speakers

Former Andhra University Vice Chancellor K.V.Ramana speaking at a round table organized on introduction of English medium of instruction in Municipal schools, he said to improve soft skills, English language is important but not correct in switching over to English medium.

The roundtable was organized by UTF demanded the cancellation of the GO No.14. Former Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University V.Balamohandas said that the decision was against the overwhelming view of academicians and intellectuals that instruction should be in mother tongue.

Right to Education Forum founder Narava Prakasa Rao said the decision was against the RTE Act that mother tongue should be the medium of instruction.

Visakha Samskrutika Samakhya founder-secretary P.Syam Sunder urged the Chief Minister to put the implementation of GO Ms No.14 on the hold. He said that even in developed countries like Germany, Japan, Russia and China, the medium of instruction was mother tongue.
