Andhra University to introduce biometric attendance system

In tune with the State government’s order, the Andhra University will come under biometric system of attendance from January for students and staff members.

Andhra University Vice Chancellor G.Nageswara Rao said that as of now, the campus has nearly 100 Android based machines placed at different departments on a pilot basis. All these machines will be replaced by Linux based machines. He said that a tender for the supply of 350 machines and it will be finalized. They machines will be supplied in November and will be installed by Decembers and all departments would come under biometric attendance system. The machines will be installed at a cost of Rs.50 lakh. Once installed, the entry and the exit of students and staff members will be digitally recorded and they cannot be tampered.

In addition to the biometric machines, the campus will also come under CCTV coverage. Tenders have been called for supply of 220 CCTV cameras at cost of Rs.50 lakh. These cameras will cover all the departments for the hostels we will have a separate tender, said the Vice-Chancellor. The cameras will be linked to a round the clock monitoring room. He said that the university will all set for full automation. He said that right from E-filing to file tracking and from admission to award of degree to a student will come under the automation programme.
