Eight persons were held in the attack of a policeman on duty

The City police arrested eight persons today and are on the look out for a few more persons who were involved in attacking a traffic policeman on duty following the death of a housewife in a road accident.

It may be recalled that A Ananda Rao and his wife Padmavathi were returning from a temple on their motorcycle at Autonagar junction on May 26. Holding responsible for the death of a woman, passersby attacked the constable.

DCP (Law and Order) North Zone, Navin Gulati speaking to media said that the constable was manning the traffic due to failure of traffic signals. The incident occurred a few metres away from him after the lorry hit the motor cycle. The constable ran to the spot to save her but she had died on the spot. He said that the local people beat up the constable without ascertaining the facts. He also said that reports were posted on social media, damaging the image of the police. Action would be initiated against those who posted reports on social media sites.
