The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) officials inspected carriage buses at Lankelapalem today and found ten of them did not have speed governors. Some buses were found to be travelling in excess of the prescribed upper speed limit.

The officials have booked cases against 16 buses, six buses were seized and the driving licences of six drivers have been suspended for three months for over speeding said Deputy Transport Commissioner S.Venkateswara Rao in a statement.

He said that all contract carriage buses should install speed governors, in hi-tech buses such as Volvo and Scania, if the electronic control unit to restrict speed was installed, the operator should possess a certificate from either the bus manufacturer or the dealer. The speed of the bus should not exceed 80 km/hr in any circumstances. Any violation would be liable for suspension of driving licence for three months .
