Speaking to media, District Collector Pravin Kumar on Friday said that the tampering of land records found in 22 cases.

On the basis of title deeds, fraudulent owners could mortgage and get loans from banks, he said. The modus operandi were to issue pattadar passbooks in the name of persons other than the landowners and increasing the land and including survey numbers in the tittle deed number by including government, poramboke or even private land. This was not a case of land grabbing but creating litigation between genuine land owners and the fraudulent claimants compromising records, he added.

A police complaint would be filed for further investigation, said Pravin Kumar. He warned revenue officials not to indulge in such criminal activities.

He said no government land was involved but the Record of Rights procedure was violated since land had to be given on lease or in sale or gift by registration. It came to light when complaints were made by some who were in the possession of land at the grievance day. Two deputy collectors were asked to enquire it. The ceiling surplus declaration would also be looked into, he said. The Tehsildar concerned had not followed the RoR procedure and the inquiry would be completed in three weeks, he said.
