Telugutalli sobhayatra

‘Telugutalli sobhayatra’ in support of Telugu medium was flagged off from Kalimata temple on Beach Road on Sunday. Organized by Telugu Dandu, the procession was taken out with a statue of Telugu Talli in the forefront. It opposed the introduction of English medium in municipal and government schools and decided to address 10,000 letters to the Chief Minsiter on the issue.

Last date extended

The last date for submitting applictions for DEECET-2017 and LPCET-2017 has been extended to August 15 according to DEO G.Nagamani. In a statement issued here, the DEO said that the candidates who passed intermediate examination can send their applications by logging on to the website http://www.cse.ap.gov.in.

College celebrates Youth day

The NSS unit members of St.Joseph’s College for Women celebrated International Youth Day on Saturday. An open stage performance programme was organized on the occasion. The skit showcased the importance of staying away from vices. NSS programme officer K.Manikya Kumari and HoD of Economics P.Jayalakshmi and others participated.

Birth anniversary celebrated

The 126th birth anniversary of S.R.Ranganathan, Father of Library Science in India, was celebrated at Dr.V.S.Krishna Library, Andhra University today. K.Rama Mohan Rao, in-charge principal of College of Arts and Commerce participated in the programme.

Port workers to go strike

All the leading unions of Visakhapatnam Port Trust have served a notice on the authorities to go on strike any time on or after August 18 in protest against replacement of Major Ports Act of 1963 with Central Port Authorities’ Bill of 2016. They also demanding scrapping of the bill as they say their demands including the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee are not being accepted.

Cases booked in land scam

Following the recommendations of the SIT, the Anandapuram police today booked cases against G.Nanda Kumar Reddy and others for allegedly mortgaging the land belonging to MANSAS trust in bank and obtaining a loan of Rs.25 lakh. According to Inspector Govind Rao, MANSAS has leased the 18 acres to the Reddy family and others. But they allegedly created fake documents and obtained loan which was against the lease provisions.

MBA entrance test date extended

IGNOU has extended the last date for MBA entrance test to August 23. The prospectus is available at the regional centre of the University at Ushodaya junction, MVP Colony and at study centres located in Visakhapatnam, Kakinada and Rajamahendravaram.
