90th bird anniversary of YVS Murty celebrated

The 90th birth anniversary of Y.V.S.Murty was celebrated here today. Lauding the contributions made by the late Professor, Vice-Chancellor G.Nageswara Rao said Dr.Murty was not only a great professor and researcher but also a philanthropist. Registrar V.Uma Maheswara Rao and AUCE Principal P.S.Avadhani participated in the celebrations.

Hockey tourney

Friends Hockey Association will be conducting the 28th VB Naidu Memorial Hockey Inter-school tournament from August 23. About ten teams will be participating in the tournament and matches will be held at Indira Priyadarshini stadium.

People First programme

As a part of the People First programme, officials should take up night halts at villages from Thursday. District Collector Pravin Kumar has said on Monday. Field level officials and mandal nodal officers should leave the villages on Thursday afternoon. They should visit health centres, hostels and schools on foot to understand the conditions and improve them. Every week, they should select a panchayat said Joint Collector G.Srujana.

Minister Ayyanna Patrudu mourns PVRK Prasad

R&B Minister Ch.Ayyanna Patrudu expressed his grief at the death of former IAS officer PVRK Prasad. He was a former information Advisor to late Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao and he recalled his services as Chairman of VPT and Executive Officer of TTD.

Paint against former MLA

The city police have received a complaint against former MLA of Yelamanchili, UV Ramana Murty Raju for allegedly threatening and beating up a city based industrialist P.Rajan Babu. The Dwaraka police are verifying the complaint to register a case against the former MLA. Sources said that the former MLA has taken a loan of Rs.50 lakh form Rajan Babu in 2010 and had not returned the money so far. On Monday, Rajan Babu asked the former MLA to repay the amount and the latter has allegedly beaten up the industrialist.

HSL properties attacked

Following a 20 year legal battle and the latest orders by the Principal District Judge, the movable and immovable properties of HSL have been attached said M.N.Aditya and D.Uma Rajya Lakshmi, advocates for Essar Oil Limited. They told pressmen that the HSL owed Rs.40 crore towards four contracts executed by their client at Ravva, Panna and other platforms in 1998. Due to ‘default in payment the amount had escalated to Rs.220 crore’.

Crane owners meet on GST

An awareness programme on GST was organized by the Visakhapatnam Heavy Crane Owners Association on Sunday. Association Secretary V.Chandrasekhar while welcoming the GST called for holding more awareness programmes in view of the lack of clarity not only in the trade but also among employees of the department. The general body meeting of the association protested against other State crane owners levying restricting on entry of AP cranes into their States.
