Deposit for USD connection opposed

CPI(M) has opposed the collection of deposit for underground drainage connection. Party city secretary B.Ganga Rao said in a statement that all houses and flat-owners should pay Rs.2,000 towards deposit and if the house was in more than 300 square yards the deposit was Rs.3,000. Even those having a house in less than 100 square yards were being asked to pay Rs.2,000 towards deposit, he said.

13th general body meeting of VSF

The 13th general body meeting of Veteran Sailors Forum (VSF) was held at Sailor’s institute on Sunday. The meeting was chaired by Rear Admiral Deepak Kapoor, Chief of Staff (personnel and administration), Eastern Naval Command. The agenda of the meeting was to review the present schemes and to institute more welfare measures for veteran sailors and widows of naval personnel.

New office bearers of All India Anglo-Indian Association

The Annual general meeting of the All India Anglo-Indian Association, Visakhapatnam branch was held on Sunday. It was attended by Phillip C.Tocher, MLA of Governing Body Member of AIAIA and Barry O’Brien, present-in-chief of the association. Elections for the local body was held and Noel Thomas was elected president, John D’Cruz, Cedric Perry and Valarie Stuart as vice-presidents.

Special drive

A special drive will be conducted to enroll voters between 18 to 21 years of age up to July 31. According to District Revenue Officer, C.Chandrasekhar Reddy, of the estimated 1,77,278 youth in the age group in the district only 29, 321 enrolled as voters. The drive is meant to enroll those left out.

Two boys drown in Yeluru canal

Two boys P.Satish (9) and P.Tharun Ramesh (12), residents of Naidupalem in Nathavaram mandal of the district drowned in Yeluru canal today. Both were studying in a private school in Atchutapuram and came home for a holiday to attend a function at Tharun’s residence. On Sunday morning, they went to a hotel for breakfast on a bicycle and while returning through a kuccha road along the Yeluru canal, they slipped into it while trying to avoid a muddy pool on the road.
