NCC cadets participate in Swachh programme

The cadets of the Combined Annual Training Camp of NCC Group Headquarters, Visakhapatnam took part in Swachh Bharat programme today. Swachh Bharat volunteer Adari Kishore Kumar addressed the cadets. Camp commandant Lt.Col.V.S.Srinivas and Adjutant Capt.T.Brahmananda Reddy were present and 600 students took part in cleaning of the surroundings of AU hostel premises.

Payment of property tax and vacant land tax and for mutation at Saukaryam’ and GVMC zone offices is likely to be delayed as Enterprise Resource Planning module is being implemented on an experimental basis for three days at ‘Mee Seva’ centres and banks according to Municipal Commissioner M.Harinarayanan.

Memorial medal instituted

Chebolu Seshagiri Rao memorial medal will be presented to student who stands first in M.A. (previous) Hindi examination of Andhra University. Seshagiri Rao’s son Bhimasankar presented a cheque for Rs.1.5 lakh towards the medal to Vice Chancellor G.Nageswara Rao today.

Workshop on GST held

AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation president-elect G.Sambasiva Rao today welcomed the decision to rollout GST from July 1. He was speaking at workshop on GST that the new tax regime would benefit the trade despite lack of clarity in some areas.

Bike rally to mark YHAI celebrations

The Visakhapatnam unit of Youth Hostel Association of India will be organizing special programmes on Sunday to celebrate its 40 years of formation. The president of YHAI N. Nageswara Rao speaking at a press conference said a motor cycle rally and a motor cycle expedition will be flagged of at around 3.30pm on the Beach Road on Sunday. MP K. Haribabu, MLC PVN Madhav and YHAI national president S. Venkata Narayanan will attend the programme. Women members will organize ‘save girl child’ campaign, he said.

New parking terminal inaugurated

Visakhapatnam Port Trust Chairman M.T.Krishna Babu today inaugurated a truck parking terminal near Y.Junction. The parking terminal developed in an area of 10 acres will provide the trucks engaged by the port users timely parking, receipt and dispatch of the cargo to the port and the destination. The Port Trust has spent Rs.1.6 crore for hard surfacing, compound wall and drainage and connecting road and an additional amount of Rs.60 lakh for ancillary facilities.

DCI holds lunch hour demonstration against disinvestment

The employees of Dredging Corporation of India staged a lunch-hour protest at the administrative office in protest against revival of move to offload majority stake in the company. Honorary president of DCI Non-Executive Employees’ Union V.S.Padmanabha Raju said that they condemn the move by the Ministry of Shipping to put up a note for the Union Cabinet to give its formal stamp of approval for disinvestment in DCI.
