Yoga walk

As part of the World Yoga Day to be celebrated on June 21, Andhra University kick-started the celebrations with a yoga walk on Beach Road led by Vice Chancellor G.Nageswara Rao today morning. The AU Registrar V.Umamaheswara Rao, Principal of AU Colleges of Arts and Commerce K.Gayatri Devi and Head of the Department of Yoga and Consciousness TV Ananda Rao participated in the walk along with thousands of children from different schools.

Art of Living performs Surya Namaskar

Over 50 persons from Art of Living today performed ‘Surya Namaskar’ at the break of dawn at Simhachalam temple today. The theme of the programme was ‘Sun never sets on yoga’ ad was organized as part of the World Yoga Day that will be celebrated on June 21.

Dance festival

The Indian classical music and dance programme organized by Nataraj Music and Dance Academy touched a musical chord with the audience at the Kalabharati Auditorium today. The festival titled ‘Naatya Tarang’ was hosted to encourage the upcoming artistes said the founder of NMDA B.Ranga Vikram Kumar.

National meet on Adivasi issues

A three-day third national conference of Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch will commence here on Tuesday. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijaya will inaugurate the conference to be held at Gurajada Kalashetram. As a curtain raiser, Brinda Karat will address a public meeting at Araku on Monday. Various Adivasi issues focusing on fifth and sixth schedule, 1/70 Act, bauxite mining and issues concerning adivasis will be taken up at the conference. The inaugural session will begin at 10am.

TDP and YSRCP gearing up for showdown on June 22

The ruling TDP and the YSRCP seem to be bent on outdoing each other on the alleged multi-crore land scam that rocked the State. It may be recalled YSRCP district president G.Amarnath announcing a Maha Dharna on June 22 which would be attended by Jagan Mohan Reddy, the TDP South MLA and TDP urban district president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar told the media today that a ‘Maha Sankalp deeksha’ would be held by the party at the Gandhi Statue on the same day with over 5,000 party workers and leaders were expected to participate.

INTUC wins HPVP union polls

INTUC affiliated BHPV National Employees’ Union has won the recognized union elections for Heavy Plate and Vessels Plant, the 17th unit of BHEL. INTUC district general secretary Neerukonda Ramachandra Rao said today that in the results announced on Saturday evening, they secured 369 against TNTUC-HMS alliance’s 279. INTUC national president G.Sanjeeva Reddy will be the honorary president of the recognized union. Alamanda Venkateswara Rao will be the president, Urukuti Babu Rao has been elected general secretary.
