Teachers lay siege to DEO office

Hundreds of teachers agitating under Forum for Progressive Teachers Organization and Joint Action Committee of Teachers’ Organization today laid siege to the DEO office at China Gadili. They were opposing web counselling for transfers and closure of schools in the name of rationalization and demanding doing away with performance points for transfers.

Olympic run on June 23

The Olympic Association Visakhapatnam is organizing Olympic Day Run on the beach road on June 23. TSR Prasad, president of OAV, said students and sports fraternity and others will participate in the run which will start from Kalimata temple and will conclude at YMCA.

HSL celebrates Foundation Day

CREDAI distributes books to students

Visakhapatnam chapter of CREDAI distributes note books and stationery kits to 100 students of the GVMC Primary School today. Giving away the books, GVMC Commissioner M.Hari Narayanan appreciated CREDAI for distributing note books and stationery kits to the students.

Iftar party on Friday

The government has declared that Ramzan will be celebrated as a State festival. The district administration will host an Iftar party for Muslims at Ambedkar Bhavan near Bullayya College at 6pm on June 23.

Rights of tribal people suppressed

The Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch has alleged that attempts were being made to give forest land to corporates and so far 7,000 hectares of land was taken away from Girijans. MP from Tripura Jitendra Chaudhury has alleged that Girijan rights were being suppressed in the BJP ruled Chattisgarh, MP and Jharkhand. The Modi government policies were detrimental to tribal sub-plan and were aimed at making Girijans leaving their land, he said. Former MP Midium Babu Rao said that the Andhra Pradesh government was indifferent to the demand to bring 1500 villages under Schedule Area.
