Campaign on donation of stem cells

To overcome the problem of getting the correct match of the stem cells for the persons suffering from blood cancer or other fatal blood disorders, Datri has started a registry to build a database of volunteers who would come forward to donate. It will be conducting a blood stem cell donors registration at Waltair Club from 10am to 6pm on Saturday. Datri has so far registered about 2.34 volunteers and 272 patients had been benefitted. Dr.Suman Das, radiation and clinical oncologist said donors need not worry and anybody with good health in the age group of 18 to 50 years can come forward to register. The registration process is simple as the volunteers will be only subjected to a check-swab test. The samples will be tested and segregated as per the parameters of human leukocyte antigen.

Treasure hunt on Sunday

Vasavi Club Greater Visakha Couples is organizing a treasure hunt on July 2. The event to be held in association with Prism Degree and PG College aims to entering the Guinness Book of World Records beating the existing record where the participation could crossed 1,300. Those aged 14 years and above are eligible to take part in the treasure hunt which will be held at Beach Road from NTR statue to YSR statue. Registrations will begin at 6am on July 2 near Kali Mata temple and is based on first come first basis. The first clue will be given to the registered participants at 7am followed by other clues. The top four winners will be given prizes that include Honda Activa two wheeler, six-gram gold chain, microwave oven and a home theatre system.

Visakha dairy products goes to be cheaper

Following GST, the dairy products of Visakha Dairy will be come cheaper. Visakha Dairy Chairman A.Tulasi Rao said that the benefit of the reduction of taxes on ghee, sweets, cream and butter will be passed on to the consumers with effect from July 1. Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam Central GST Commissionerate is organizing ‘GST Day’ at 3.30pm on Saturday at CR Building, Port Area. The Commissioner of Central Excise, B.Hareram will inaugurate the event.

Naval Community Day

Naval Community Day was organized by families of the Defence Civilian Employees at Meghadripeta Housing Colony on Friday. Jaishree Prasad, wife of Admiral Superintendent of the Naval Dockyard who was the chief guest inaugurated the Tailoring Club at the Welfare Centre and play equipment at Visvodaya School.

GVMC workers to go on strike

GVMC Contract Workers’ Union affiliated to the CITU on Friday served a notice for going on strike for three days from July 11. The strike notice was given to the Commissioner M.Hari Narayanan seeking implementation of agreements reached earlier and various GOs, cancellation of GO 279 and payment of salaries through slum-level federation.

Samir V.Kamat is new Director General (NSM)

Outstanding Scientist, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Hyderabad Samir V.Kamat will take over as Director General, Naval Systems and Materials on Saturday. He joined the DRDO at DMRL, Hyderabad as scientist ‘C’ in 1989 and rose to the position of Director in August 2015.

ESIC officer jailed for graft

Principal Judge of CBI cases Gayathri Devi on Friday sentenced Mh.Khaja Khadeeruddin, the then Social Security Officer, Programme Implementation and Controlling of Inspections, ESIC, Regional office, Gunadala to four year’s imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.40,000 on him. He was convicted on demanding a bribe of Rs.25,000 from the owner of a garment company for not bringing the trainees under insurance coverage and closing the case.

Eastern Discom enhances retirement age to 60

The governing body of the APEPDCL enhanced the retirement age of its employees from the present 58 years to 60 years with effect from Friday. The decision was taken based on the approval of the government said M.M.Naik, CMD of the Discom. In all 40 employees were scheduled to retired on Jun 30 and they would now get an extension of two years.

YSRCP plea for plenary at AU grounds denied

The plea of the YSRCP to allot AU convocation hall for its district plenary on July 2 has been turned down according to party district president Gudivada Amarnath. The plenary was initially planned for June 21 and a letter has been submitted a fortnight before that. In view of the ‘maha dharna’, the party had organized on June 22, the date was changed and a fresh letter given on June 24. He said that the Registrar had asked them to get the nod of the HRD Minister. He said that they had asked the Registrar to give the same in writing but no response was received, he said.
