Sixty convicted for drink-driving

As many as 60 persons were convicted and given punishments by the III Metropolitan Magistrate Court here by judge Ramya today for drink-driving. 17 out of them were asked to do traffic duties for two days. According to a release from Traffic department, 17 motorcyclists were asked to regulate traffic duty from 9 am to 12 noon and 3p to 6pm on May 17 and 18. They were also slapped a fine of Rs.1,000. Another six motorcyclists were given two day simple imprisonment and fine of Rs.1,000 one lorry driver was given two days imprisonment and a fine of Rs.1,500. Meanwhile, 36 motorists were imposed fine of Rs.1,000 and Rs.2,000.

Tyagaraja Aradhana festival on May 21

A day long programme will be held by the Tyagaraja Aradhana Trust to mark the 250th birth anniversary of the saint composer Tyagaraja Swamy and jubilee of the trust on May 21. Over 600 artistes including vocal, instrumental and dance would participate in the festival. Artistes from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, West Godavari, Bengaluru, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Vijayawada will participate. Special Chief Secretary L.V.Subramanyam will be chief guest.

QA1 award for college

Lendi Institute of Engineering and Technology has bagged the International Institute Award-2017 which was given by AQI (Qualifications Assessments International), UK for the third consecutive year. Principal V.V.Ramana Reddy congratulated students and staff of English department who have been instrumental in achieving the award.

Court denies bail to IT official Rajendra Prasad

The Designated Court of the CBI here has denied bail to Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals) Mumbai, B.B.Rajendra Prasad, MD of Essar Group of Companies Pradip Mittal and four others and remanded them for another 14 days. Rajendra Prasad was arrested on May 3 for allegedly demanding Rs.2 crore for passing a favourable order in a case pertaining to the Balaji Trust which is backed by the corporate entity of the Essar Group.
