Workshop on GST

A three-day workshop to create awareness on Goods and Services Tax being organized by the local chapter of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India began here today CMD of RINL P.Madhusudan was the chief guest. GST would be beneficial to several businessmen and consumers, said Chartered Accountant V.Raghuraman. He said that chartered accountants will play a key role post implementation.

First NCC girl cadet selected for SSC

EEE graduate and NCC cadet of GITAM University Ch.Anusha has been selected for the Short Service Commission. She is the first NCC girl cadet selected for the SSC. Indian Navy, Vice Chancellor of GITAM University M.S.Prasada Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor K.Sivarama Krishna and Registrar M.Pothuraju and NCC officer (girl’s wing) of the university Parimala Venu appreciated her achievement.

Campaign to save environment

Paryavarana Margadarsi Vaisakhi’s as art of its initiative to protect environment organized a programme at the Youth Hostel today. With the theme focused on ‘Save environment for the next generation’, the awareness campaign saw a number of students participating in a line of activities. AU zoology professor Ch.Manju Latha and secretary of PMV J.Rajeswari along with a team of volunteers took part in the programme.

Opinion poll on English medium in schools

Child rights activists will conduct an opinion poll on Sunday on the State government’s move to make English medium mandatory in municipal schools from this academic year. Addressing a press conference, honorary secretary of Bala Vikas Foundation and child rights activist Narava Prakasa Rao said the opinion poll was meant for parents to voice their views by selecting a list of options. Based on the data collected, a memorandum will be submitted to the HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and authorities concerned, he said.

CTF police rescue three women

City Task Force police raided a flat in an apartment complex at Yendada area and arrested two organizers, one customer and rescued three women hailing from West Bengal and Karnataka. According to CTF ACP I.Chittibabu, the organizers were identified as Sh.Asha and Y.Koteswara Rao. The police seized four mobile phones and Rs.16,900 in cash from the organizers. The accused were handed over to Arilova Police.

Sitaram quits YSRCP

Former MLA and YSRCP coordinator for the Bheemunipatnam Assembly Constituency Karri Sitaram today announced his resignation from the party. Speaking to media, he said that a second coordinator was appointed 15 days ago without his knowledge after which he met the party president Jagan Mohan Reddy and told him that he should least been taken into confidence before appointing another person. Quoting the party president, Sitaram said that A.Vijayanirmala had been appointed coordinator as she was sound financially.
