Clean blankets programme

Andhra University Vice Chancellor G.Nageswara Rao has called upon the faculty to strive hard and make the university an outstanding institution in the country. He was addressing college principals and deans at the University Senate Hall today. He said that initiative es would be given to faculty members whose research papers were published in prestigious journals. Meanwhile, Prof. in the Department of Human Genetics, AU M.Sudhakar has been appointed liaison officer of the university with the SC/ST Employees of AU according to a press release.

Sewage treatment plant inaugurated

The sewage treatment plant built by HPCL Visakha Refinery at a cost of Rs.40 lakh with a capacity of 25 kilo liters per day was inaugurated by the AP Pollution Control Board Environment Engineer R.Laxmi Narayana today.

Three accused in gang rape arrested

Three of the eight accused in the alleged gang-rape of two minor tribal girls were arrested and sent to remand on Thursday by the Chintapalli police. The arrested were identified as K.Varun, Ch. Balakrishna and M.Prasad. Another accused L.Nagendra reportedly surrendered before the police on Thursday according to DSP of Chintapalli Anil Kumar. The search is on for the other accused. Cases were booked under IPC Section 376 AND (d), 354, 341 and Section 6 of POCSO Act.

Celebrate NTR Jayanti as artistes’ day

Former Minister Dadi Veerabhadra Rao has urged the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu to celebrate TDP founder NTR’s birth anniversary as artists’ day. He said that his last birth day in 1995 was officially celebrated as artistes’ day.
