Siri takes over as Additional Joint Collector

A.Siri who has been appointed as Additional Joint Collector today assumed charge. An APPSC Group I officer of 2007 batch, she had worked as Revenue Divisional Officer of Palakonda, Executive Director of the SC Corporation in Kakinada and District Tourism Officer in Visakhapatnam. Meanwhile, Assistant Director of IPR department was given full additional charge as SETVIS CEO.

Attack on siblings condemned

The All India Democratic Women’s Association has condemned the attack on two siblings at Mallambhupathipalem in Butchaiahpeta mandal of the district. In a statement on Thursday, AIDWA State president B.Prabhavati alleged that the two women, Appana Mahalakshmi and Kalam Venkata Lakshmi were tied to a tree and attacked over a property dispute. She said the attackers threatened to kill them.

Gold seized from two Sri Lankan nationals

Two Sri Lankan nationals frequent travellers to India were nabbed at the Visakhapatnam International Airport by the Customs officials while trying to smuggle gold on Thursday. In one case, a man who swallowed two gold pieces was caught and in another a women were found carrying gold jeweller worth 88 grams without declaring it as required under the law. The arrested were identified as Hajira Umma Jenual Abeden and Shareefdeen. The latter who swallowed the gold pieces was taken to KGH to bring it out under medical supervision.

CITU stages protest

CITU affiliated United Port and Dock Employees’ Union staged a dharna in front of the administrative office of Visakhapatnam Port today demanding implementation of the Parliamentary committee on the Major Port Authority Bill, 2016. They wanted continuation of two trustees from the trade unions in consultation with the workers from among serving employees as per the recommendation of the Panel.

Dr N.K.Panigrahi was invited for global symposium

Noted Interventional cardiologist of Apollo Hospital N.K.Panigahi has been invited by Cardiovascular Research Foundation to take part as an advisory faculty at the 29th annual scientific symposium of transcatheter cardiovascular therapeutics to be held at Denver in the US from October 29 to November 3. Nearly 12,000 doctors will attend the symposium.
