Karambi is the new Chief of Estern Naval Command

Vice Admiral Karambir Singh will take over command of the Eastern Naval Command on Tuesday at a ceremonial parade to be held at the Naval Base. Admiral Karambir Singh will assume charge of the command from Vice Admiral HCS Bisht who will be retiring from the Naval Services on Tuesday.

Former IRS officer Kailash Gupta to deliver lecture

Centre for Policy studies in association with Visakhapatnam Public Library is organizing a meeting on Tuesday. Retired IRS officer Kailash Gupta and retired Indian Defence Accounts Service Vijayalakshmi Gupta will be speaking on ‘How I got out of awkward situations in my service’ and ‘public accountability’ respectively at the meeting which is scheduled to be held at 6pm on Library premises.

Organic fruit juices outlet inaugurated

Drunken Monkey, outlet with organic fruit juices, ice creams and smoothies was inaugurated today. More than 125 varieties of fruit juices and a range of smoothies are available at the counter. According to Kiran, franchise owner of Drunken Monkey, the juices are served at the venue sans food colour and added preservatives. Sachidananda Saraswati Swamy inaugurated the outlet near RTC complex.

Chess tourney

Intel School of Genius Chess Academy in association with Kreeda Bharathi, the Olympic Association and District Chess Association conducted Inter District Chess Tournament at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Public School on Sunday. The first prize was won by B.Ramana Babu, the second spot was taken by P.Srinivas Reddy and M.Lokesh Kumar won the third prize according to a press release.

Government urged to review clause in PPPAs

Former Union Energy Secretary EAS Sarma today asked the State government to review ‘deemed generation’ clause in the long-term purchase agreements signed with the project proponents. He, referring to Simhapuri and Meenakshi thermal power plants said that they were accused of over voicing of coal imports. Most of the plants had slashed their production due to surplus availability of power but the government was paying them huge amounts putting heavy burden on the power consumers.

VPT expansion-public hearing on Tuesday

AP Pollution Control Board will organize a public hearing on oil berth expansion of Visakhapatnam Port Trust on October 31. The public hearing will beheld at 11am at the Visakhapatnam Port Trust Truck Parking yard, Y.Junction of the Dockyard Road to receive suggestions/objections of handling of petroleum crude and products expansion from 3.28 million tonnes to 9.81 million tonnes per annum by organizing the berths of Oil Refinery Berth-1 and II with an investment of Rs.193.31 crore.

=Fellowship to Dr. Kootikuppala Surya Rao Noted physician Kootikuppala Surya Rao was elected Fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (India), New Delhi. Dr.Mukund S.Joshi, president, NAMS, presented the fellowship to Dr.Surya Rao at the 57th NAMS conference held in Amritsar from October 27 to 29 according to a press release.


Former DSP Ravi Babu sent to Police custody

Former DSP Ravi Babu, the prime accused in the murder of rowdy sheeter Gedela Raju has been sent to police custody on Monday. The police are in the process of getting information in the case. He was in remand in Visakhapatnam Central Prison. Following the petition filed by police, the court granted four days police custody till November 2.
