MP Haribabu chief of Lok Sabha panel on energy

MP K.Haribabu has been appointed Chairman of Standing Committee on Energy of the Lok Sabha. With the Ministries of Power and New and Renewable Energy under it purview, it comprises 20 members form Lok Sabha and 10 from Rajya Sabha. The functions of the Standing Committee include considering the demands for grants of concerned ministries/departments and make a report on them examining bills pertaining to the Ministries/Departments concerned.

Hindi Diwas

Students and staff of IIM, Visakhapatnam participated in the events conducted as a part of ‘Hindi Diwas’ celebrations on Wednesday. Complying with the instructions from MHRD, the institute organized various competitions including elocution, poems and slogan designing.

Contests to mark Gandhi Jayanti

HSL lays keels for two tugs

Kells for two tugs named Atal and Ananth being built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited in the series of six 10 teonne bollard pull tugs for Indian Navy were laid here on Wednesday. The keels were laid by senior workmen in the presence of HSL Director (Ship Building) Commodore (Retd.) A.S.Mitra. The tugs have a length of 25 metres with a speed of 12 knots. The tugs will be fitted with fire fighting equipment.

e-waste bin installed

An e-waste bin was installed at the Tech Hub as part of Swachh Bharat Mission on Wednesday. The bin was installed at a workshop conducted on e-waste management conducted by Software Technology Parks of India and Green a Environmental Solutions.

Two die and six hurt as four wheeler rams auto

Two persons died and six others sustained injuries when a speeding four-wheeler rammed a stationery autorickshaw, near MRO office under Bheemunipatnam police station limits today. The incident reportedly took place following failure of brakes of the four-wheeler. The deceased have been identified as V.Appa Rao, document writer and Ammoru resident of Pedda Uppada village of Bheemunipatnam mandal. The injured were rushed to KGH.

Good response to diploma courses

Two diploma courses in readymade garments and retail management and IT industry by the Skill Development Centre at BVK College received good response. College correspondent K.Viswanath said the courses are free and sponsored by the UGC and have all facilities such as hostel, scholarship and stipend. All seats in readymade garments course were filled while there are a few seats vacant in retails management and IT, he said.
