‘Government to host National Games in November-2018’, says Sports Minister

Minister for Sports Kollu Ravindra has said that the State government has expressed its readiness to host the National Games in November 2018.

Ravindra said that they made a request to the Central Government of their preparedness to host the National Games in November. He said that the national games if not at one venue will be held at venues such as Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Amaravati.

Speaking to media, he said that GVMC Indira Priyadarshini Stadium would be developed as a State-level ‘Khelo India Mega Centre’. He said that national athletics meet was conducted successfully in Vijayawada recently and athletes from 26 States took part. The world-class multi-sports complex planned in Visakhapatnam would be come on the land provided by the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

A sports training centre is coming up at Kommadi. Three academics have been sanctioned for Visakhapatnam and a water sports facility will also come up, he said. The construction of stadiums was going on in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam and are planned such facilities at Tirupati, Nellore and Vijayawada. In Amaravati, a Sports City was being planned in 400 acres, he said.

On mini-stadiums in each Assembly constituency, each with a cost of Rs.2 crore and so far 35 had been completed and 56 were in the stage of progress.
