Andhra University terminates contract staff

The Executive Council of Andhra University that met here today decided to terminate contract employees who were appointed between 2013-2016.

Andhra University Vice Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao said that the PhD admissions made under the executive quota would be reviewed and admissions of those who were enrolled in violation of the rules will be cancelled. A decision was also taken by the council to initiate disciplinary action against the former VC and principals of the University in accordance with the guidelines.

He said that show cause notices would be served on NAD Paul and S Haranath who were absorbed into the University services.

University gets first instalment of RUSA funds::

The AU has received the first instalment of funds under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan. The university has got Rs.5 crore from a total sanction of Rs.20 crore. The VC G.Nageswara Rao said that the funds will be used for development of the campus. He said that Rs.1 crore would be spent on installing biometric system and CCTV cameras on the campus. Tenders have been floated to install 350 biometric machines and about 250 CCTV cameras.

Rs.1.5 crore has been earmarked for renovation of hostels. Rs.50 lakh will be used for renovation of the open air theatre. Some part of the first instalment will be utilized for giving a facelift to the Assembly Hall, TLN Sabha Hall and Convocation Hall. The VC said that the university has plans to upgrade about 100 classrooms to e-classrooms from the second instalment of RUSA funds.
