The officials of Anti Corruption Bureau today booked a case against a constable Anand Varma of Gajuwaka Police Station.

He was arrested under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs.40,000 from the owner of a lorry.

Going in detail, the Gajuwaka police had recovered a body in a lorry laden with sand on July 5 which is coming to Visakhapatnam from Rajahmundry and the body was identified to be that of the driver, resident of Vijayawada who was killed by the cleaner. As per rules, the lorry was supposed to be seized but was not done. The lorry owner5 later approached the police to release the lorry as it was not seized. At this juncture, the constable reportedly demanded Rs.75,000 that was negotiated to Rs.40,000 for handing over the lorry back to the owner. The constable reportedly told the ACB officials that the amount has to be passed to higher officials.

The lorry owner who has no role in the murder approached the Commissioner of Police who advised him to approach the ACB. Based on a complaint, the ACB booked a case the constable was taken into custody.
