LIC carom, chess tourney gets underway

The South Central Zonal level Carom and Chess tournament being organized by LIC Visakhapatnam Division began here on Thursday. It was inaugurated by District Collector Pravin Kumar at Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium. A total of 73 players (36 women and 37 men) representing Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are participating in the events.

Workshop on Geneva Convention

A two-day workshop conducted by Indian Coast Guard and International Red Cross Soceity concluded on Thursday. The workshop was conducted on board Coast Guard ship Shaunak and focused on Geneva Convention whose primary role is to provide humanitarian assistance to people in situations of disaster, crisis and conflict. In another event, the Coast Guard also conducted a cross country championship in which officers and enrolled personnel participated in the 12 km. run.

AU hostel employees’ sports meet

AU College of Arts beat College of Engineering in the finals of Kabaddi tournament held on Thursday as a part of sports meet for AU hostel employees. Similarly, the College of Arts team thrashed the College of Engineering in the volleyball finals held on Wednesday according to AU Hostel Employees’ Association president.

Skill Development Institute bags award

Skill Development Institute, Visakhapatnam has bagged an award for being the best institute in innovation of skill development. The award was presented by Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy in Delhi on Wednesday.

Tagarapuvalasa will get facelift

HRD Minster Ganta Srinivas Rao laid the foundation stone for various developmental works to be taken up in Bheemunipatnam Assembly Constituency with an estimated cost of Rs.2.4 crore. He said that Tagarapuvalasa would get a facelift with due focus on development of roads, drinking water and lighting facilities. He said that Rs.42.69 crore was sanctioned of which works worth Rs.25.12 crore were already completed.

Three killed and six injured as autos collide

Anakapalle:: In a road accident, three persons including a ten year old kid were killed and six seriously injured when an auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling collided with another auto rickshaw near Marturu area under Anakapalli police station limits on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Chinnari (10), Swarajya Lakshmi (40) and another unidentified youth around 25 years of age.

Dr.Abburi Gopala Krishna family donates rare books to AU HRD Centre

A rare collection of books on various topics, collected by late Dr.Abburi Gopala Krishna were donated to the Andhra University Human Resource Development Centre by his wife Abburi Prameela in the presence of AU Vice Chancellor G.Nageswara Rao and HRD Center Director Sriramulu.
