Kite festival on Sunday

Kites in various shapes and hues will enthral visitors to RK Beach on Sunday. The occasion is the fifth annual Kite festival, being organized by the Agarwal Mahasabha in association with SBI Life Insurance near Gokul from 10am to 2pm. The festival held last year drew enthusiastic response from the public with children participating along with their parents.

Prof. Venugopal Reddy appointed as Registrar of IGNOU

IGNOU has appointed Prof. Venugopal Reddy as the Registrar of its Student Evaluation Division. Prof. Venugopal Reddy is currently heading the Regional Services Division. He is the first from the State to head this division, one of the very important divisions.

Jail bharo’ on January 30

Following a national-level call, trade unions will go on a ‘Jail bharo’ agitation on January 30. The agitation was called after the country-wide strike and three-day protest from November 9 in New Delhi elicited no response on the 12 demands of the unions. A round-table of the unions today at the CITU office decided to hold general body and gate-meetings, district conventions, bike rallies, and campaign through posters and pamphlets. Representatives of CITU, Bank employees, DCI and APMSRU participated.

Lion dies due to old age

A lion died at the Animal Rescue Centre located near the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park today. ‘Kunal’, the male lion, aged around 30 years was brought from Ajanta Circus. It outlived its age and completed its fullest lifespan, and died due to old age, a statement issued by the zoo curator said.

’Hanuman chalisa’ for universal peace on February 3

Sri Ganapati Sachchidananda Datta Gnana Bodha Sahba will conduct a mass ‘Hanuman Chalisa parayana’ for universal peace at RK Beach on February 3. The mass prayer, to be held opposite the Kali temple is expected to witness the participation of one lakh devotees. Devotes and citizens have been asked to participate in large numbers and make the programme a success.
