Painting contest

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation in association with Sathgeeth Creations organized a painting competition at V.T.High School as part of ‘Swachh Pakhwada’ on Monday. A number of participants brought out different themes that focused on clutter-free environment, increasing green cover and reducing pollution level.

Swachh campaign vehicle flagged off

GVMC Commissioner M.Hari Narayan on Monday flagged off a campaign vehicle of HPCL Visakha Refinery making ‘Swachh Bharat’ fortnight. HPCL signed an MoU with GVMC to spend Rs.5 crore on de-silting of storm water drains, providing a compactor and compactor bins among others.

Workshop on ‘Green Buildings’

The Department of Architecture of Andhra University College of Engineering will organize a national workshop on ‘Green Buildings’ on August 11. AU Vice Chancellor G.Nageswara Rao released a poster of the workshop on Monday.

Speaker inaugurates polytechnic

Speaker Dr.Kodela Sivaprasada Rao today called citizens to play their rightful role in the development by taking up their responsibilities. He participated in the centenary of the Government High School at Chodavaram and inaugurated new polytechnic and additional classrooms of the high school and the junior college.

Move to shift Dharna Chowk opposed

An attempt by police to explain the reason for the shift Dharna Chowk from Collectorate to alternative venues found no takers with all-party and trade union meeting rejecting the idea on Monday. The meeting convened by Joint Commissioner of Police Nagendra Kumar remained inconclusive with the political parties and unions saying a new venue would not serve any purpose.

Honour for scientist

Ministry of Earth Sciences and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research has presented a memento to former Emeritus Scientist of Regional Centre of NIO, Visakhapatnam, in recognition of his significant services in ‘Indian Polymetallic programme’, since 1981. Dr. Murty is one of the members of the 45 day first Indian Ocean expedition team in 1981 on board a small research vessel R.V.Gaveshani during which manganese nodules were first collected form deep seabed.

IIPE admissions

Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy has completed the second phase of allotment of seats on Monday. The seats filled include 50 in B.Tech programme of petroleum engineering and 50 for chemical engineering. Those who got admission have to pay Rs.30,000 on or before July 28 towards confirmation of their acceptance and the same will be adjusted in the tuition fees during the admission time. In the case of SC/ST, it is Rs.20,000.

New office-bearers for IIISLA

Indian Institute of Insurance Surveyors and Loss Assessors elected a new body for two years at a meeting here. The meeting elected unanimously R.Ramakrsihna Rao as the coordinator for Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram. The deputy coordinator will be KKVN Raju and S.Prabhakar Naidu is elected as the Treasurer. The results were announced by returning officer S.Krishna Murty.
