New DCP takes over

K.Fakeerappa has taken over as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone-1 (Law and order) from Navin Gulati on Wednesday. A 2011 batch IPS OFFICER, Dr. Fakeeerapa was earlier posted as Squadron commander of Greyhounds, anti-Maoist force in Chittoor and East Godavari.

GO on enhanced wages issued

Claiming that GO 151 on enhanced wages to municipal workers equivalent to PRC issued because of struggles of CITU, GVMC Contract Workers’ Union urged the Municipal Commissioner to implement it. The Director of Municipal Administration issued the GO deciding wage of Rs.12000 to unskilled workers and Rs.17,500 to skilled workers according to a release from the union.

Anti-larval drive

GVMC workers on Wednesday carried out a special drive for larvae elimination at RH colony, VAMBAY Colony, Chaitanyanagar, KRM Colony, Peda Jalaripeta, Srinagar, Marripalem, Karasa, Mangapuram Colony, Jabbar Thota and Allipuram areas. Awareness exhibitions on prevention of malaria, dengue and chikungunya were conducted in GVMC schools at Yendada, Kurupam Market and Marripalem and Sai Vidya Niketan, Twinkle School and Gayatri School at Gajuwaka and MPP School, China Mushidivada.

Smart streets’ redesigned

Smart streets planned under Smart City Project are redesigned after tenders for the complex work failed to get any response. The issue was discussed in the Ministry of Urban Development. The streets were redesigned and the length was also increased from seven to 20 km. said GVMC Commissioner M.Harinarayanan at a press conference today. The digital classrooms in high schools would be experimentally started in one or two schools on Thursday. The project was ready for six schools and would be finally extended to 31 schools.

123 schools to have playgrounds

In tune with the government’s proposal to develop 3,000 playgrounds in government schools across the State, the District Sports Authority has selected 123 schools in the district. Speaking to media on Wednesday, District Sports Officer June Gallyot said estimates have been made for 104 schools and sanitation has been accorded for 41 schools in the first phase. The work remaining in 82 schools will be taken up in the next phase, she said. Project Director of DWMA B.Sudhakar said the Collector will sanction Rs.5 lakh for developing a playground in each school and the work will be completed in the next two months.
