CPI (M) leader dies of illness

District general secretary of CPI(M) Saripalli Ramesh (46) died of illness here today. Ramesh, who was suffering from leukaemia, underwent treatment at Vellore in Tamil Nadu on September 27. When the situation became critical, he was brought back to city and was admitted to KGH on Monday. He died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday.

Kochuveli special train on Wednesday

A special train will be operated by the Railways between Guwahati and Kochuveli on November 8. Train No. 05616 Guwahati-Kochuveli special train will leave Guwahati at 7.25am on November 8 and will arrive here on the next day at 5.10pm and depart at 5.30pm to reach Kochuveli on Saturday. Train No. 05615 Kochuveli-Guwahati special train will leave Kochuveli at 2.15pm on November 12 and will arrive here at 10.40pm and depart at 11pm.

DCI employees stage dharna

The employees of Dredging Corporation of India went on half-day leave today and took part in a dharna at GVMC Gandhi statue in protest against the Centre’s decision to sell its entire equity in the company. Committee on Subordination Legislation (Rajya Sabha) Chairman T.Subbarami Reddy opposed the privatization. In a letter to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said DIC had been earning profits since inception in 1976 and there was no justification to hand it over to others.

New aquaculture system dedicated to nation

ICAR Director General Trilochan Mohapatra today dedicated the nation the indigenous Re-Circulatory Aquaculture System developed at the Visakhapatnam Regional Centre of Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute. He is here to receive an award at the third AP Science Congress.

Ganja seized from Nigerian national

The Airport police today arrested Igbokwe Chukwuebuka Gibhson, a Nigerian and seized 30 kg dry ganja from him near NAD Kotha Road junction today when he was making arrangements to transport the hemp by road. Police sources said that he came from Tirupur and procured it from a person at Maddilapalem.

Two minors ‘gang raped’

Two minors were raped allegedly by three youngsters including an autorickshaw driver under Araku Valley Police Station in the district according to sources. Though the incident took place on Sunday, it came to light when the victims approached the police on Tuesday. Police sources said that the girls both under 17 years and first-year students of a private vocational junior college at Araku had gone to the Sunkarametta weekly market on Sunday for shopping and to meet their friends and relatives. To return to Araku, the girls boarded a shared auto-rickshaw in which some persons were already travelling. As the other passengers got down at their destinations en route, the two girls were left along in the vehicle. Taking advantageous of the situation, the auto-rickshaw driver allegedly called two of his friend and they boarded the vehicle, the driver diverted it to an isolated place where the crime was committed.
