Awareness drive

In line with the Swachhata hi Sewa, the Skill Development Institute, Arilova conducted an awareness programme at Public and Police Association Home for street children on Sunday. Institute Chief Manager (Administration) C.V.N.Das along with other staff members distributed kits and dustbins to the children.

Khadi stalls

To mark Gandhi Jayanti and encourage Khadi and handloom weavers, stalls will be put up at the office of Lok Sabha member K.Haribabu near Kailasagiri ropeway on Beach Road on Monday. The stalls will be open from 10am to 6pm according to BJP city president M.Nagendra. He appealed the people to buy the products and support the weavers.

Smart parks

MP K.Haribabu has laid the foundation for smart parks at Beach Road opposite YMCA and at China Waltair. The parks will be uniquely developed with facilities and play equipment for children. While the park on Beach Road will be developed at a cost of Rs.3.54crore, the one at China Waltair will cost Rs.99 lakhs.

Senior citizens felicitated

International Day of Older Persons was celebrated by the Differently Abled and Senior Citizens Assistance Corporation on Sunday in association with Help Age India to create awareness on taking care of parents and the aged and the laws relating to their welfare. Secretary, District Legal Services Authority S.Damodara Rao was the chief guest.

Burns victims critical

The woman and her son who were set ablaze on Thursday night at Chadurumamidi village in the limits of G.Madugula PS in Visakhapatnam Agency continuous to be critical . Both the victims were under treatment at KGH. Chintamma(50) ad Chantibabu who is in his mid-twenties were set a fire by V.Srinu, the eldest son of Chittamma.

=Air passenger detained on suspicion of carrying gold Customs officials detained a passenger travelling from Sri Lanka at Visakhapatnam airport for allegedly carrying gold in his rectum on Sunday. The passenger arrived from Sri Lanka in the morning flight and the officials suspected that something was wrong from the way he walked. Sources said that it was initially suspected that the passenger was carrying cocaine in his stomach. It is learnt that the passenger was sent for a full body scan and the officials are yet to confirm his identity and what he was carrying.
