Acid attack on Dr.Balaji Bhushan Patnaik creates flutter in doctors fraternity

The medical fraternity was shocked over the acid attack on Dr.Balaji Bhushan Patnaik, a paediatrician at a corporate hospital and was the first incident in the city.

The attack took place near Pandimetta area, when he was returning home after duty. Initially, it was presumed that there were three attackers but sources said that there were only two. The attackers followed him from the hospital and when the doctor approached a secluded spot, they rammed his car with their bike. When the doctor stepped out of the vehicle to check what happened, the attackers poured the acid on his face said DGP (Law and Order) K.Fakeerappa.

The doctor was rushed to the hospital where he works for treatment. Sources said that he suffered severed acid burns on the face and his eyes might be in danger. He underwent an emergency surgery of one of his eyes on Wednesday.

The police have formed teams to investigate into the case and have collected the CCTV footages from the apartments located close to the spot. The CLUES team was also deployed.
