Chandra Kanuka gift hamper to include sari and dhoti

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu today hinted of including sari and dhoti in the Chandranna Kanuka being given on festivals to white ration card holders.

He was responding to the suggestion made by Mullapudi Renuka on the resolution on women welfare and empowerment. He said he had thought of including it in the previous year but the stocks were inadequate. Renuka wanted women farm labourers to be included in the free bicycle scheme for girls.

B. Vedavyas said Rs.2,000 crore was given to the Kapu Corporation and Rs.1,400 went abroad and during the year another 1,000 would go. The TDP government was trying to formulate reservations in such a way as to pre-empt the possibility of courts striking it down, he said.
