Drink-driving case- Judge orders tipsy drivers to do traffic duty

To dissuade tipsy drivers from hitting the road in inebriated condition, Third Metropolitan Magistrate Ch.Ramya gave a unique judgement on Wednesday

Apart from imposing a fine of Rs.500 for drink-driving, the judge has asked the five accused to take up the traffic police duties as a punishment here from Thursday. The magistrate, who had a serious view on drink driving has already sent 30 persons to jail in the last month.

The magistrate asked the Traffic Inspector of Two Town police station to put them on traffic regulation duties from 9am to 11am and 3pm to 6pm on Thursday. This is the first time such punishment was being given to the people caught driving under the influence of alcohol according to ADCP (Traffic) K.Mahendra Patrudu.

Those who got the punishment included Sanny Gujaral, P.Selot, P.Suresh, K.Ravindranath and V.Trinadh Teja.
