Gajuwaka Sub-Registrar Doddapaneni Venkaiah Naidu was arrested by the officials of Anti-Corruption Bureau today on charges of possessing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

ACB sources said that the assets to the tune of Rs.6 crore the market value of which would more around Rs.60 crore were seized from his possession and his relatives. The officials suspect that he played a major role in the land scam in the city. The raids were conducted at 11 places in Visakhapatnam district and Chittoor district.

The properties seized include a fully furnished apartment worth Rs.54 lakh in Maharanipeta, one plot at Kapuluppada, two plots measuring 1,130sq.yd.at Sattavanipalem in Narava, 1,120 sq.yd plot in Jaggayyapalem in Narava, two plots measuring 1,960 sq.yd also at Jaggayyapalem, 300 sq.yd. at Madhurawada, five open plots each measuring about 120 sq.yd at Saavanipalem and one 255 sq.yd of plat at Surya Shakti Nagar at Madhurawada. The ACB unearthed one constructed lodge ground plus five named as Kommineni Residency in Tirupati worth about Rs.2 crore in the name of his father-in-law and one 400 sq.yd. plot in the name of his brother-in-law in Tunglam village in Visakhapatnam. The officials also seized two four wheelers and one motor cycle, 1.750 kg of gold ornaments, 1,350 kg of silver articles worth Rs.20 lakh, cash of Rs.6.42 lakh, bank balance of Rs.5 lakh and promissory notes of Rs.5 lakh. One locker in a private bank in his wife’s name is yet to be opened.
