Deputy Director of Enforcement Directorate assumes charge

Jyoti Kiran Bollineni has assumed charge as Deputy Director of the Visakhapatnam Sub-Zonal Officer of the Directorate of Enforcement. An officer of the 2011 batch of IRS, she is appointed in the Directorate of Enforcement.

Hindi week celebrations

Hindi week celebrations organized by Dredging Corporation of India concluded here on Friday. During the week Hindi songs, Hindi quiz, Hindi drafting and noting and Hindi Unicode Typewriting competitions for employees and Hindi essay writing competition for children were conducted.

Health cards for students

GVMC Commissioner N.Hari Narayan has said that biometric attendance system should be introduced in all municipal schools by October and health cards prepared for students with focus on anaemia, skin diseases and tooth disorders. Speaking a meeting of headmasters today, he said awareness should be created among students on career development. Additional Commissioner (Finance) S.S.Varma said that Rs.11.08 crore was spent in providing facilities in 136 schools. A total of 21,211 students are studying in 147 schools, he said.

Logo released

A book festival – Vizag Fest 2017 will be conducted at the AU Engineering College grounds from December 1 to 10. The logo of the festival was released by the District Collector Pravin Kumar on Saturday.

Safe swimming zone at Rushikonda

District Collector Pravin Kumar has said the North Andhra districts Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam along with the city can become the economic driver for the State in the tourism sector. He was speaking at the inaugural of a seminar on ‘Prospects and potential for tourism in Visakhapatnam hub’ organized jointly by the AP Tourism and Andhra University as part of World Tourism Day celebrations on Saturday. He said that 10 beaches were identified in Visakhapatnam district for development. Beach shacks were constructed at Thotlakonda beach front and the Rushikonda beach front was being developed by the AP Tourism Development Corporation. He said that safe swimming zone would be developed at Rushikonda.

AP Fire department is preparing a disaster management plan

The Andhra Pradesh Fire Department is preparing a detailed disaster management plan city wise – City Disaster Management Plan for Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam with the help of National Disaster Response Force according to Regional Fire Officer B.Srinivasulu. The plan would comprise the possibilities and sources of fire or natural disasters in the cities and action plan to deal with them, he said. Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada have been chosen as pilot projects and the plans will be ready within two months, he said.
