  • Six convicted for three day jail term for drink driving:: Six persons were convicted to three days of imprisonment by the Third Special Metropolitan Magistrate M.Venkata Rao for drink driving today. The convicted have been identified as Eswar Sahu (35), Annepu Bhanu Prasad (24), Balabommala Krishna (40), Ch.Polinaidu (30), Golagani Babji (46) and Dandu Raju (29). All were arrested by Gajuwaka police.
  • CPI (M) opposes land for township:: The CPI(M) has opposed any move to deprive farmers of their land in Gangavaram area in the name of satellite township. The proposals for the township were not clear as it was not known whether government agencies would take up the construction or under PPP mode said party district secretary K.Loknadham. The villages in which land was being sought included Aganampudi, Nanginarupadu, Gangavaram, Peda Mushidivada and E.Marripalem. The plans include a sports complex in 150 acres and construction of 25,000 houses in 400 acres he said in a statement.
  • AU to conduct 27 courses for defence personnel:: AU Vice Chancellor G.Nageswara Rao said that it will conduct 27 courses on skill development and training for the defence personnel from the coming academic year. He said that the participants will be nominated from the three services will be sponsored by the DG Resettlement. It is estimated that around 5,000 service personnel will be benefitted from these courses, he said.
  • HSL bags Rs.230 crore contract:: Hindustan Shipyard Limited has won a contract worth Rs.230 crore from the Indian Navy through competitive bidding process for construction of four 50 tonne bollard pull tags. The contract is expected to weigh up the existing order book position of the HSL.
  • Kavi Sammelanam on Mach 15:: The Department of Telugu, AU and Visakha Sahiti will be jointly organizing ‘kavi Sammelanam’ at the Department of Telugu, Andhra University on Thursday in connection with ‘Sri Vilambi Nama Ugadi’. The programme will begin at 10am.
